A longstanding tradition of the New Jersey MORE THAN Pink walk is to go to our Hope Village tent and get your survivor or MBC thriver beads. With the walk being virtual in 2020 we missed out on this tradition — but we’re pleased to bring it back in 2021.

On the morning of Sunday, October 3rd participants rushed to the Hope Village tent to join their fellow survivors and MBC thrivers to collect their beads.

Each year, nurses and volunteers from RWJ Barnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey generously donated their time at the MORE THAN PINK Walk to distribute the beads. Each strand of beads represents the years of survivorship or years fighting for — Pink for survivors and gold for metastatic breast cancer thrives.

RWJBarnabas Health is one of our partners in the fight against breast cancer as our official Hope Village sponsor, and works with the Cancer Support Community to provide free support, education and hope to those affected by cancer. The program offers many support groups, facilitating the kind of friendships, community and assistance that Hope Village aspires to capture each year.

No two breast cancer journies are the same — they’re very personal and cannot be replicated. But on this walk day every year, we come together as ONE to honor our survivors, MBC thrivers and remember those we lost to this disease. We’re so thankful for the generous support RWJ Barnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey has provided to Susan G. Komen New Jersey and for keeping the bead tradition going in 2021. Thank you!
